LONDON – The Spanish manager Rafael Benitez, Liverpool manager says his side had deserved the victory in the field of Stoke City, which tied the game (1-1) in the 90th minute through Robert Huth.
Benitez had to make six changes in the starting lineup because of injuries, including those of Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard, but drew positive conclusions: “The important thing today (Saturday), with big men out, was to show character and resilience , and the players were fantastic, they have worked very hard and the fans have appreciated. ”
“I am pleased with the performance against a tough team. In a tough game we did everything possible to win. Before the game might think that a point was good, but after gaining 89 minutes to go, I think we deserved to win the three points” .
Benitez warned that “in football, sometimes circumstances go against you,” but said “the only way to change things is to persevere in the job.”
“The best thing for me is that players have tried from the beginning to the end and we will improve if we continue like this,” said Spanish coach, who complained that the referee did not bring two penalties to Lucas.
“The two were criminal for me, were very clear. You can see those plays a hundred times and always have the same opinion. In having said, things have changed a lot,” he said.
