Nuri Sahin could make his debut for Liverpool when they take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, according to manager Brendan Rodgers.
Sahin was a transfer target for the Gunners before moving to Anfield on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid recently.
Now, he is line to make his first appearance for the Reds when they play host to Arsene Wenger’s side in the third round of Premier League fixtures.
When asked if Sahin could feature against Arsenal, Rodgers told the club’s official website: “Yes. Nuri has come here determined to be a success and that’s the type of player that we want.
“You see him in training and he’s got good technique. He understands the game and he plays with a smile on his face. He’s a good guy and he’s very intelligent off the field.”
With just one point from their opening two league fixtures, Rodgers knows that things won’t get any easier on Sunday, as his side face another challenging encounter.
“We know the size of the task. We’ve got a very, very difficult game against Arsenal. They have been consistently challenging in the top four positions for many years and they will be looking to be up there again this year.
“We have got to have 100 per cent focus and concentrate on our performance. If we perform well and participate in the game tactically we’ve got a chance to win.”
