The 23-year-old suffered an injury whilst training with the Reds this week and has failed to recover in time to take on the Latics at the DW Stadium in Saturday’s late kick-off
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has failed to overcome injury in time to make his side’s clash with Wigan on Saturday afternoon.
Brendan Rodgers revealed earlier this week that the former Chelsea forward had suffered a knock in training and he has not recovered sufficiently to even claim a place on the bench.
The Reds have not played since a 3-1 win over Zenit St Petersburg saw them exit the Europa League nine days ago, and make just one change as the cup-tied Philippe Coutinho takes Jordan Henderson’s place.
Wigan, meanwhile, are unchanged from their 3-0 victory over Reading at the Madejski Stadium last time out.
