The 24-year-old insists that there is “nothing true” about statements that the Reds will be his next club, and says that he could even stay in Amsterdam this summer
Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has played down speculation linking him with Premier League side Liverpool, insisting there is no truth in the rumours.
The 24-year-old had previously stated that the Reds would “meet his criteria” if he were to leave the club this summer, but Alderweireld says that he could now stay in Amsterdam.
“I have also read that Liverpool would be interested,” Alderweireld told Metro.
“I never said Liverpool would be my next club. Nothing is true about that.”
Ajax are currently four points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table and are assured of European football next season, while Liverpool look set to miss out on a spot in the Europa League.
Alderweireld enjoys playing for the club, who shocked dethroned Premier League champions Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this year, and would be happy to remain with the club.
He added: “Ajax is in every way a fantastic club. We play for prizes every year and we also show good things on a regular basis in Europe.
“After the season, I will look at my options. Possibly, I even stay at Ajax.”
