Alan Pardew’s men are looking for victory as they aim to pull clear of the relegation zone and Willie Duncan is backing the Magpies to claim all three points against the Reds
Newcastle United edged closer to Premier League safety last weekend with a battling 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion and Alan Pardew’s men will be keen to build on that result when they play host to Liverpool at St James’ Park on Saturday evening.
The Magpies have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions but are chalked up as a 15/8 (2.88) chance to get the better of the Reds this weekend.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have lost just one of their last nine matches but will go into Saturday’s fixture without top scorer Luis Suarez who, of course, begins a substantial ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic at Anfield last Sunday.
Despite the Uruguayan’s absence, the Reds are 11/8 (2.38) favourites to win on Tyneside while the same firm go 5/2 (3.50) that the match ends level.
Two of Liverpool’s last three league matches have ended 0-0 and, should that scoreline be repeated on Saturday, Bet365 will refund all correct score, half-time/full-time or scorecast bets placed before the match kicks off.
With Suarez absent, Liverpool are likely to hand a starting berth to Daniel Sturridge.
The ex-Chelsea striker made an impressive appearance from the substitutes’ bench against his former employers last weekend and is available at 5/1 (6.0) to break the deadlock for the visitors at St James’ Park.
Newcastle, though, will be determined to claim a vital victory in their battle to beat the drop and Senegal international striker Papiss Cisse could play a key role for the Magpies in their quest to claim a much-needed three points against Liverpool.
Cisse has scored 13 goals for the Magpies in all competitions this term, including a dramatic last-gasp winner against Fulham earlier this month, and the 27-year-old striker looks to represent excellent value at 11/2 (6.50) to open the scoring.
The Magpies suffered a shock home defeat at the hands of rivals Sunderland at home two weeks ago but it is worth noting that Alan Pardew’s men have claimed nine of their 10 Premier League victories on home turf this season, including victories over Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
With that in mind, the Magpies look to be good value at 15/8 (2.88) to improve upon their solid home record by beating Liverpool on Saturday night while Papiss Cisse is the value play at 11/2 (6.50) with the same firm to bag the opening goal of the game.
