Arsenal goalkeeper Damian Martinez has urged Arsene Wenger to break the bank in order to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez this summer.
The Uruguayan claimed in an interview with the Guardian on Tuesday that he had been promised a move following the club’s failure to secure a place in this season’s Champions League.
Liverpool owner John W Henry has since reiterated that the club will not sell the 26-year-old, who is currently training away from the first team.
Arsene Wenger maintains Arsenal will continue to be “amicable” in their pursuit of Suarez and Martinez believes the forward could be the key to boosting his side’s title chances.
“We are all waiting for Suarez to join Arsenal,” Martinez told Goal.
“Arsene Wenger wants him more than anybody else. I hope the deal gets done so we can aim at something more than qualifying for the next Champions League.
“Let’s see if we can break the bank and bring him in.”
Brendan Rodgers insists the club are in control of the situation and says Suarez will be permitted to rejoin first-team training sessions when he accepts that he will remain at Anfield this summer.
