Liverpool have great momentum after perfect start, warns Henderson

The 23-year-old is confident the Reds can maintain their current winning run and admits that beating Manchester United last time out has given the club a “great boost”

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has warned the Premier League that his side have built up great momentum after winning their first three games of the season.

The Reds currently top the table after victories over Stoke, Aston Villa and Manchester United and the 23-year-old expects their winning run to continue.

“We’ve got a lot of momentum after the first three games of the season,” he told the club’s official website.

“There’s always room for improvement and I’m sure we’ll work on that. But we’ve got to be very pleased with the three results. We’ll continue to keep working and keep building by working hard on the training ground.

Brendan Rodgers’ men beat champions Manchester United last time out at Anfield, courtesy of a Daniel Sturridge strike and Henderson admitted it had given the club an extra lift

“Beating Manchester United gave us a great boost and it kept the winning mentality and the momentum going,” he added.

“But we know that it’s going to be difficult in our next few games, so we’ll have to keep focused and hopefully we can keep putting in performances like that.

“A lot of the lads are now on international duty, but from the people who are here, there’s a good aura about the place and hopefully when the lads come back, we can focus on Swansea.”

Henderson has started all three games for the Reds and says he has been pleased with the way he has started the season.

“I’ve been happy with the way the first three games have gone, in terms of my own performances, but there’s always room for improvement,” he added.

“There’s a few things I want to change in my own game, but I tend to keep them to myself, privately.”

Henderson hails Rodgers influence at Liverpool

The England international believes he is finally living up to his price tag at Anfield thanks to the Northern Irishman’s contribution

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has credited manager Brendan Rodgers with playing a key role in his development.

Henderson joined the Anfield outfit in 2011 when former manager Kenny Dalglish was in charge, moving from Sunderland for a reported fee of £16million.

And although he made 37 Premier League appearances for Liverpool – of which 31 were starts – in his first season at the club, the midfielder initially failed to live up to his price tag.

The 23-year-old has played every minute of Liverpool’s three Premier League wins this season and told the club’s official website that Rodgers has been a significant contributor to his development.

“I feel as though I’ve progressed over the last year or two,” Henderson said.

“I’ll try and push on. The manager has been brilliant with me and everybody else here. He’s been fantastic on a personal level.

“I think I’ve improved my game since he’s come to the club and he’s helped me to do that.”

Henderson says his team-mates are delighted by their fast start to the current season, which sees them sitting on top of the Premier League table as the only side with a 100 per cent record.

“We’ve got a lot of momentum after the first three games of the season,” he said.

“There’s always room for improvement and I’m sure we’ll work on that. But we’ve got to be very pleased with the three results.

“Beating Manchester United gave us a great boost and it kept the winning mentality and the momentum going, but we know that it’s going to be difficult in our next few games, so we’ll have to keep focused and hopefully we can keep putting in performances like that.”

Liverpool’s next test will come on September 16 when they travel to Swansea City.

Sakho has no regrets about Liverpool move

The France international is happy with his decision to make the deadline day switch to England and says he was not pushed through exit door

New Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho says he has no regrets about leaving Paris Saint-Germain and insists he was not forced out of the club.

The 23-year-old, who has been capped 14 times for France, completed the move to the Anfield club on transfer deadline day for a reported fee of €17.2 million.

Reports surfaced suggesting the France international had been forced out of PSG following the arrival of Brazilian defender Marquinhos earlier in the summer, but Sakho refutes those claims.

“I achieved beautiful things at Paris that I am very proud of, so I can leave raising my head high,” Sakho told L’Equipe.

“Since the start of my career, my first desire has been to go on improving and reach the objectives I set.

“My career dictated me that choice. I move on without regret. Today I am joining a great club with fantastic fans. I am very proud to have signed at Liverpool.

“Early in the summer I had a talk with my PSG coach and chairman. Some things were said but not necessarily with any result. But there is no problem and I feel not bitterness. It was my choice to leave. No one pushed me to the exit door.

“Contrary to what I could hear, I don’t fear competition. At Liverpool, do you believe there will be no competition in my position?”

The France international paid tribute to the supporters after he watched from the stands as Liverpool beat Manchester United and revealed it was the exciting project that convinced him to make the move to England.

“Why Liverpool? Because the Premier League is the best league in the world, and it was the club that offered me the project that suited me the best,” Sakho added. “The officials knew how to convince me.

“My first feelings in the Anfield stands? I had confirmation I made the right choice. They are amazing fans and a very good team. The fans’ chants are beautiful even if I can’t understand English so far.

“Compare Parc des Princes and Anfield? You can’t compare. Le Parc is my cradle.”
