Liverpool boss Rodgers talks up ‘critical’ Fulham clash

The Cottagers claimed a hard-fought point against Manchester United on Sunday, despite being put under enormous pressure, and the Merseysiders have been urged against complacency

Brendan Rodgers has warned his Liverpool players not to underestimate bottom side Fulham on Wednesday after their Old Trafford heroics.

Despite propping up the rest of the Premier League and suffering FA Cup humiliation against League One Sheffield United last Tuesday, the Cottagers took the lead at Manchester United on Sunday and then equalised in the 94th minute through Darren Bent to earn a shock 2-2 draw.

Liverpool head to London fresh from hammering Arsenal 5-1 at the weekend, having also thumped Fulham 4-0 at Anfield back in November, but Rodgers has the utmost respect for Rene Meulensteen’s men and is anticipating a tough encounter.

“Every game is critical for us, whether it’s the top team or the bottom team,” the Reds boss told reporters.

“I think you saw (on Sunday) they’ve got some very good players. They showed great resilience in the game, they took the lead.

“I know some of the players there – brilliant professionals, Steve Sidwell, I’ve worked with, Scott Parker, Damien Duff, all players that are outstanding players with good experience.

“But we understand that it won’t be an easy game, because there are no easy games and obviously away from home in the Premier League it is difficult, but we have a belief and a confidence in our play and hopefully we can take that into Wednesday’s game and get another good three points.”
