The Reds manager wants more competition for Simon Mignolet and Brad Jones as well as pursuing greater squad depth in attack, with his side targeting Southampton’s Adam Lallana
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that his side will be targeting a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window as well as “two or three” players further forward.
Simon Mignolet is established as the Reds’ No.1 after a fine debut season at Anfield but, with only Brad Jones for first-team cover, the Northern Irishman is keen to fill out his ranks.
The Premier League runners-up are pursuing Southampton captain Adam Lallana, with the Saints demanding £30 million, but Rodgers indicated that they will not stop there.
He told BT Sport: “We’ve only got two goalkeepers. We need another goalkeeper.
“We’ll look to bring in two or three more at the top end of the field as well.
“We’re after players that are hungry, that have ambition to become better players. We need technical players that can play in a fast game and we need technical intelligence.”
Asked if he was referring to younger signings, Rodgers replied: “No, that means good players and you can be a good player at whatever age – 32, 33 – but, of course, I like the hunger of a young player, I like the fearlessness of a young player.
“It’s about balance. You need the senior players around them to help them flourish and grow.”
Rodgers was speaking before Liverpool’s 4-0 friendly win over Shamrock Rovers on Wednesday.
