Leeds United forward El Hadji Diouf has branded Steven Gerrard “selfish” and claims the Reds’ captain was jealous of him when he played for Liverpool.
In an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe, the 31-year-old has claimed that the Reds’ skipper does not care about the club’s results, as long as he puts in a good individual performance.
Diouf spent two years on Merseyside before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2005 after a loan spell at the Reebok.
The former Senegal international also mentioned Jamie Carragher in a similar light, but did not divulge any information about the long-serving defender.
“Gerrard was jealous of me back then as I had the world at my feet,” Diouf said.
“There’s no one more selfish, he doesn’t care about anyone else. Gerrard rather Liverpool lost and he scored.
“The old Liverpool guys can’t stand him. I won’t even start with Carragher.”
