Pete Nordsted: Why Manchester City and Liverpool are worth backing this weekend

This Sunday sees a crucial match taking place at Stamford Bridge as current European champions Chelsea host the Premier League holders and table toppers Manchester City.

Chelsea’s new coach Rafael Benitez will be desperate to kick-start his tenure at the Bridge with a victory as defeat would send them six points behind City.

Having started the season in great form Chelsea have now not won a league game in four matches, but they do have a reasonable home record when playing the Premier League elite which reads won six, drawn one and lost three.

The Citizens have started the campaign very solidly and Roberto Mancini’s side are yet to taste defeat, but when looking at their away record against the top four sides it reads  a fairly average won two, drawn three and lost five.

Also, Stamford Bridge has been a fairly unproductive venue for the champions in recent seasons, results have seen Chelsea come out on top in four of the last five head-to-head meetings.

Chelsea can be backed at 6/4 (2.50) . However, given the fact that City are yet to be defeated this season, I would recommend keeping the draw on your side as the best play and Chelsea can be backed +0  goals on the Asian handicap at 10/11 (1.91) . This means should the game end a draw then you lose half your stake.

On Sunday Brendan Rodgers returns to the Liberty Stadium for the first time since taking charge at Anfield and he could be in for a tough time.

The Reds are undefeated in their past seven consecutive league matches. However, when facing teams of Swansea’s calibre away from home, Liverpool’s record reads won three, drawn one and lost six. Plus Swansea have only lost two in five when hosting teams of Liverpool’s standing.

This should an intriguing encounter and when looking at the above stats Liverpool offer no real value and Swansea can be backed on the Asian handicap +0.25 goals at 11/10 (2.10) . This means should the game end a draw then your bet would be settled as a winner but you receive half your stake at that price.

Chelsea v Manchester City
Swansea v Liverpool
