The centre-back has ended speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League by joining Jordy Clasie in signing a new deal with the Eredivisie giants

Feyenoord have successfully concluded contract negotiations with Stefan de Vrij and have announced on their official website that the defender has signed a new deal until the summer of 2015.

The centre-back’s previous contract with the Rotterdam giants was due to expire in June 2014 and clubs such as Everton and Liverpool were closely monitoring his situation at Feyenoord.

Nevertheless, De Vrij has now ended speculation about his future for now by signing a one-year extension to his existing deal.

“I still see a lot of room to improve myself and the team. I am very pleased that I can continue to be part of Feyenoord. I hope that we will be fighting for silverware again next season,” the 21-year-old commented on his contract renewal.

The Netherlands international is a product of the Feyenoord youth academy and has already made over 100 Eredivisie appearances for the Rotterdammers.

De Vrij’s contract renewal comes one day after the news that fellow Oranje international Jordy Clasie has signed a new deal until June 2016.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a transfer to Fiorentina, but opted to sign a two-year extension with Feyenoord instead as he’s reluctant to move abroad ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 21-year-old playmaker has made 66 league appearances for Feyenoord since his return from a one-year loan spell at Excelsior in 2010-11.
