The Uruguay international has heralded the club’s supporters ahead of the decisive meeting with Manuel Pellegrini’s men on Sunday as the two teams battle for the title

Luis Suarez has called on the Liverpool supporters to once again provide the electric backdrop to a famous victory when Manchester City visit Anfield on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’ side are four points clear of this weekend’s opponents and five wins away from a 19th league title.

Suarez believes the Kop can ‘act as the 12th man’ and carry the Reds a step closer to being crowned champions of England for the first time in 24 years.

The Uruguay international, who has scored 28 Premier League goals this season, has summoned his team mates to play with their heads against Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

“The atmosphere at Anfield is amazing and when you go out onto the pitch and see that support, it’s unbelievable,” Suarez told the club’s official website.

“With this support every game, it’s like we can’t lose here at home. They are so strong for us but even if we lose a game or play badly, they’ll continue to help us. For the team and the players, that’s unbelievable.”

Liverpool are on a nine-match unbeaten run but know that, should they lose against Pellegrini’s men, they will relinquish control of their own destiny, with City having two games in hand.  

The 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster will undoubtedly add extra poignancy to what the Premier League’s top marksman believes is ‘the most important game of the season.’ 

“In the Premier League, we have two really good teams with ambitions of winning the league – Manchester City and Chelsea,” Suarez continued. “But now we know we have a really good chance, especially if we win the game on Sunday.

“We’ll play at home, but we’ll keep calm, try to keep the ball and take it easy. We’ll try to play with no pressure because when you do, it’s more difficult for the players.”

Another three points would move Liverpool seven clear of City at the summit, but Suarez refused to speculate on his future.

“This has been the best year for me; for my performance, for myself, for my life.

“But I don’t want to think about what we might be doing at the end of the season, we must focus on the next game.”
