Readers have voted for the side who beat Manchester United on penalties nine years ago as their favourite, a squad that remains the last Gunners side to claim silverware
POLL RESULTS
The Arsenal side who beat Manchester United on penalties in 2005 have been voted Goal readers’ FA Cup Dream Team.
Goal asked readers to choose the most iconic team in recent FA Cup history, from the Liverpool side led by player-manager Kenny Dalglish in 1986 to the victorious Chelsea outfit who lifted the cup under current Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti in 2010.
And it was the team who secured the fourth FA Cup of Arsene Wenger’s reign who proved to be Goal readers’ favourites, claiming 32.3 per cent of the vote.
The final would mark both Patrick Vieira’s final competitive kick of a ball in an Arsenal shirt and the Gunners’ last piece of silverware – though they have the chance to end a nine-year wait for a trophy when they take on Hull City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
The Manchester United team who claimed the FA Cup as part of an historic treble in 1999 polled in second place, while the Chelsea who beat Portsmouth in the final four years ago came third.
