First Round World Cup wrap- Salah unused, Lovren’s Croatia win

Here is how Liverpool’s players in action at the 2018 World Cup have performed so far. Will be updated to reflect other LFC player performances in the first round.

Mo Salah– the Egyptian was an unused substitute as his country went down 1-0 to Uruguay in their opener. It was also the first time that the South Americans had won their opener at a World Cup since 1970.

Dejan Lovren:- Lovren played the full 90 at centre back as Croatia won their group opener 2-0 against Nigeria in Kaliningrad

Roberto Firmino– Bobby was a second half substitute for Brazil, replacing Man City’s Gabriel Jesus, as the Seleccao drew 1-1 with Switzerland

Marko Grujic:- The Serbian didn’t feature in his side’s opener against Costa Rica, but they won 1-0 thanks to a fantastic free kick from Alexsandr Kolarov

Jordan Henderson:- Henderson started and played the 90 as England beat Tunisia.

Sadio Mane:- Captained Senegal and played the 90 as they stunned Poland 2-1.

Trent Alexander Arnold & Simon Mignolet:- Did not feature in their country’s games against Tunisia and Panama respectively.

Mane a doubt for Brighton clash

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Sadio Mane is a doubt for their final game against the season. The Senegalese international, who forms one part of their attacking trident alongside Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah, has picked up a “fresh injury” according to Klopp.

Liverpool need only a point from their final game against Brighton to seal CL football for next season. If they somehow lose to the team they thumped 5-1 at the Amex Stadium in December and Chelsea win against Newcastle on the final day of the season, then Klopp’s men would have to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kyiv. A result against Brighton should, on paper, be easier to achieve, with the Seagulls having nothing really to play for and Liverpool having a great record at home. The Reds will also be playing in their new kit. Continue reading

Echo and the Bunnymen rearrange gig owing to Champions League final, then change decision after fan outrage

Rock band Echo and the Bunnymen were due to perform at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on May 26, and opted to rearrange their gig and move it to May 29th because it was clashing with Liverpool’s Champions League final.

They released a statement on Facebook, which lead to outrage from disgruntled fans who were upset at having to cancel their travel and hotel bookings. Following the outcry, they changed their decision and opted to keep the gig on the 26th itself.

Chaos, we must say!
